ANGA Cable 2006, Cologne, Germany, 30 May 2006: Pace Micro Technology plc (pic.l), the leading dedicated innovator of technology solutions for the payTV industry, is demonstrating its next generation technology for digital TV distribution at ANGA Cable 06.
Pace's MultiDweller technology has been developed to solve operators' problems in delivering digital TV and interactive services, such as VOD, high speed internet and VoIP to customers in multi-dwelling units (MDUs), such as apartment blocks.
Specifications
Pace Multi-Dweller dispenses with the need for expensive re-wiring, which can raise prices and create significant disturbance for both the operator and end-user. It works by routing multiple digital TV feeds "from either a satellite, cable, IP or terrestrial signal" through a special unit which is installed near the input signals to the building. The Pace technology then uses the existing single coax network within the MDU to deliver TV feed, and any additional services, to subscribers.
The Pace Multi-Dweller solution is able to tune to all incoming signals but only puts those required by the viewers onto the MDU network, which frees up large amounts of bandwidth. This extra space can then be used to deliver other services to the users, such as PVR functionality, HD content and triple-play services.
Steve Jenkins, Chief Technologist, Cabled Systems, at Pace commented: "With one in two people in Europe and Asia Pacific living in an MDU, this 'no-new-wires' approach promises to be an important technology for operators looking to increase their revenues at lower cost."
