HD-DVR to support the launch of Cablevision’s MAX digital TV service in Argentina
Saltaire, UK, 25 November, 2009 – Pace (LSE: PIC), a leading global developer of digital TV technologies, announces it will be providing the HD (high definition) DVR (digital video recorder) set-top boxes to support a new, advanced service offering from Latin America’s largest cable operator, Argentina’s Cablevisión. Pace’s set-top box, developed exclusively for operators like Cablevisión, will be launched in conjunction with the new MAX service at the end of November 2009, which will be the most advanced digital TV service in Latin America.
MAX is the next-generation of Cablevisión’s digital programming and incorporates many more TV and radio channels, as well as gaming channels, pay-per-view and access to premium channels (with the right subscription). The Pace device will give viewers access to the Cablevisión MAX experience through an advanced interactive EPG (electronic program guide).
The 250GB hard drive allows up to 70 hours of HD recording or 150 hours in SD (standard definition), and viewers can pause and rewind live TV, record one channel while watching another or record two programs at the same time while watching a third from the hard drive. Movies available on the MAX service are searchable by title, by actor and even by director through the EPG.
Available from end of November, MAX will be supported by a major marketing campaign and will be available in numerous Cablevisión markets.
“Cablevisión’s selection of Pace as a strategic launch partner for the new MAX digital television service further demonstrates Pace’s commitment to the growing pay TV markets in Latin America,” commented Mike Pulli, President, Pace Americas. “We are delighted to be working with Cablevisión to bring our HD-DVR technology to subscribers in Argentina.”
“Launching MAX is a very important move for us as we continue to assert our leadership position in HD programming in the region,” said Gonzalo Hita, Commercial Manager of Cablevisión. “We needed a partner that could provide the best available set-top box technology and one that we can rely on in the future as we continue to push the boundaries of delivering the digital TV experience. Pace fit the bill perfectly, and has been integral in making MAX a reality.”
